1 Hotel Hanalei Bay gives $10k to KCC Culinary Arts

PRINCEVILLE — 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay donated $10,000 to the University of Hawaii Foundation, Kauai Community College Culinary Arts program at the North Shore resort’s dining facility on June 24.

The funds for the donation were raised during the 1 Hotel Hanalei’s earlier four “Chefs by Nature” culinary series, and the donation will be used to provide scholarships supporting culinary education at the college.

The Chefs by Nature culinary series was a collaboration between the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay culinary team led by Executive Chef Daniel Palumbo and guest celebrity chefs to highlight the importance of supporting local farmers and purveyors.

Guest celebrity chefs from the earlier series include Food Network’s Amanda Freitage, James Beard and Michelin star Chef Nancy Silverton, Bravo TV’s Top Chef Melissa King, and from the Koko Head Cafe in Honolulu, Bravo TV’s Top Chef Lee Anne Wong.

Culinary Arts students from KCC also assisted during the guest chefs’ appearances at the mission-driven sustainable luxury resort.

KCC Chancellor Margaret Sanchez and Culinary Arts program coordinator and chef Steven Nakata paused working to accept the contribution made by Managing Director of 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Marcus Loevenforst, Executive Chef Palumbo, Director of Food and Beverage Operations Georgine Deason, and Director of Marketing and Programming Alexis Eaton.
