HONOLULU — Waimea High School senior Kaye Marie Alvarez, Kauai High School senior Jaevyn Navarro, and Kapaa High School senior Jasmine Fanechigiy earned special trips to Oahu to attend the luncheon at the Halekulani Hotel on April 30.
The trio were among 42 outstanding students honored at the 2025 Citizen-Scholar Awards hosted by the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association in partnership with the Hawaii State Department of Education and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. The annual awards recognize one graduating senior from every public high school in Hawaii for their academic success, leadership, and service to their communities.
“These Citizen-Scholars are shining examples of what it means to give back while achieving at the highest level,” said HLTA President and CEO Mufi Hannemann. “They reflect the values of service, perseverance and leadership that will continue to shape a brighter future for Hawaii.”
Alvarez was named the Top Kauai Scholar, earning a $1,000 scholarship, and an additional $2,500 scholarship for being named the top Kauai Scholar. She has plans of attending Notre Dame of Maryland University. Navarro and Fanachigiy each earned $1,000 scholarships.
