NAWILIWILI — The Child and Family Service team led by Natalie Jenson, CFS Director of Programs, came in several cars to move the food contributed to CFS by the Matson Nawiliwili team, Thursday morning.
“This year marks our sixth Matson Kaua‘i food drive,” said Patrick Ono, the Matson Kaua‘i District Manager. “With this year’s contribution, we have provided our island’s families with more than 7,000 pounds of food to help our neighbors in need.”
The load will be shared between the CFS Nana’s House in Waimea, and the CFS Hale Ho‘omalu in Kapa‘a family centers that maintain food pantries for their respective communities.
“This is really helpful,” said Stephanie Funtanilla, the Nana’s House program manager. “We are seeing a lot of new families coming in, and with the high rate of unemployment, the food is really needed. Some of the people are close to tears when they get the food.”
The Child and Family Service team completed its second Festival of Hope for Families distribution on Kaua‘i funded by a grant from the Hawai‘i Resilience Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation where more than 600 families from the Westside through the Eastside were able to access free food, and other family resources.
“Given the effects of this pandemic, this food drive was special for our employees,” Ono said. “This is our way of giving back to our community in which our employees live and work. We are extremely proud of our Matson Nawiliwili team for their generosity and support of this annual event, and a special mahalo to our coordinators — Reni Domingo and Kerri-Anne Kanahele.”
CFS Director of Programs Natalie Jenson thanked the Matson Kaua‘i team for its support.
“We are so happy with the relationship Child and Family Service has with Matson,” Jenson said. “This will definitely help a lot of families, especially during this time of the pandemic.”
