WAINIHA — A manic Tuesday, as a downed tree on the North Shore triggered a power outage and caused traffic delays.
On April 29, Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) announced that a localized power outage affecting the Wainiha and Haena areas had been implemented due to a fallen tree that damaged a power line.
The fallen tree resulted in traffic disruptions as crews worked diligently to clear the roadway and restore electrical service. Residents expressed their frustrations regarding the incident on KIUC’s Facebook page while also seeking alternative power solutions.
One Haena resident expressed his frustration on the page, commenting, “I’ve lived in Haena for 22 years, and I have to say the grid management is absolutely the saddest state of affairs I have seen in quite a while. I have a fridge full of food I am now going to lose, $400 paycheck, gone,” he wrote.
KIUC successfully restored power at approximately 9:30 a.m. The company extended its gratitude to the North Shore community for their patience during the process.
Residents who may have incurred damages or losses are encouraged to submit a claim online by visiting kiuc.coop/file-claim or by calling 808.246.4300.
