Families receive financial assistance from YWCA

LIHU‘E — YWCA Kaua‘i has awarded 25 grants to local families through a recently-created COVID-19 Relief Fund, which provides one-time financial assistance grants to participants of their financial empowerment program, Healthy Money Choices, and they’re still going strong.

The fund was created as a way to help the Kaua‘i community through the pandemic, and current YWCA clients and a few community referrals also received grants. In total, it contains $22,500 for COVID-19 relief. The fund was made possible by an Allstate Foundation grant, $12,500 from Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, and a generous matching donor.

The COVID-19 Relief Fund was designated for rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, medication, medical bills, childcare, or transportation to/from work.

“We wish to express a sincere mahalo nui loa for the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay’s tremendous ongoing support of the YWCA programs and the COVID-19 Relief Fund. It is during times like these that the true spirit of a community comes shining through and the generosity in donating to the YWCA COVID-19 Relief Fund is inspiring” said Renaé Hamilton-Cambeilh, Executive Director of YWCA Kaua‘i.

“This could not have happened without Rotary’s support…thank you, thank you, thank you,” added Hamilton-Cambeilh. “I have spoken with many of the applicants personally to gather more information and it has proven to be a very moving experience as I hear their stories. The recipients are so incredibly grateful.”
