Fatal crash shuts down Kaumualii Highway

OMAO – A 69-year-old man suffered fatal injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon.

On October 10, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a 2010 Toyota SUV was making a left turn onto Kaumualii Highway from Omao Road when it was struck by a 2015 Honda motorcycle traveling eastbound on the highway.

The motorcyclist, a 69-year-old man from Puhi, sustained fatal injuries. He was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The operator of the Toyota SUV, a 64-year-old woman from Omao, did not report any injuries.

Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions for approximately 2.5 hours while the Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, and toxicology results are pending to determine if impairment played a role. The investigation remains ongoing.

This is Kauai’s sixth traffic fatality of 2025.
