HANAPEPE — The Kauai Fire Department responded to a 5-acre brush fire on the West Side on Wednesday evening.
Fire crews with the Hanapepe and Kalaheo Fire Stations responded to a fire call shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, near Lele Road and Lokokai Road at Salt Pond Beach.
Tender 1, Air 1 helicopter, the Kauai Police Department, the Department of Public Works, KEMA, the on-duty battalion chief, and private landowners all responded to the incident.
Officials warned Salt Pond Beach Park visitors of the blaze and asked them to voluntarily evacuate as a precaution.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze at around 8:20 p.m., with an estimated four to five acres scorched. There were no reports of damaged properties or injuries.
