Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Moloaa Monday

MOLOAA — Kauai Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Moloaa Monday.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire behind the fruit stands in Moloaa on Monday shortly before 10:45 a.m.

Personnel with the Kapaa, Kealia, Princeville and Lihue fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 10:55 a.m., firefighters discovered a single residence in flames. First responders successfully extinguished the fire using a water tender due to the lack of fire hydrants in the surrounding area.

KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 12:50 p.m.

Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $105,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
