NAWILIWILI — A free clinic, led by the University of Hawaii women’s golf team, will be held at the Ocean Course at Hokuala on Saturday for keiki ages 3 to 18 years old.
Participants are asked to meet on the Ocean Course putting green. Free rental clubs will be available for the clinic and a question-and-answer clinic is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m.
Pre-event registration is appreciated, and can be made by calling the golf shop at 808-241-6000.
University of Hawaii women’s golf head coach Julie Brooks, the UH women’s golf players, and Kellie Hines, the PGA director of instruction at Ocean Course at Hokuala, will offer swing lessons, fun drills, information about college recruiting, and more.
Among the notable players participating in the clinic are Maline Krause and Jasmine Wong. Krause, a senior from Germany and All-Big West Honorable Mention, led the Rainbow Wahine last week at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate played in Colorado.
“The Ocean Course at Hokuala and Kauai have been wonderful allies of our program for a long time,” said Brooks in the Ocean Course announcement. “We are honored to give back to the community with an interactive, memorable experience for keiki and their ‘ohana on Saturday.”
The clinic comes ahead of Sunday’s practice round of the 2025 Rainbow Wahine Invitational that will be played Oct. 20-22 at the Ocean Course at Hokuala, according to information provided by the UH Sports Department.
The 28th edition of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational marks the first time in 25 years the fall tournament will move to the island of Kauai.
UH Sports said the tournament has traditionally been hosted by Kapolei Golf Club but this year, play moves to the Ocean Course at Hokuala, which has hosted several other UH tournaments, including the 2024 Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. Hokuala has also served as the home course for the men’s golf team’s John A. Burns Intercollegiate for the past four years.
Participants in the 28th Rainbow Wahine Invitational will play 18 holes each day at the par 72, 6,039-yard course with a shotgun start of 9:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and a 9 a.m. start on Wednesday.
This year’s Rainbow Wahine Invitational field features 19 teams, highlighted by nine teams ranked in Scoreboard’s Top 100 national rankings. These teams include 15th ranked Baylor, No. 30 Kansas, No. 32 Missouri, No. 35 Eastern Michigan, No. 57 Sacramento State, No. 85 Santa Clara, No. 89 Boise State, No. 91 Brigham Young, and No. 94 Long Beach State.
UH women’s golf is ranked No. 138 in the season’s first national ranking, and will join the other teams, including Grand Canyon, Idaho, Kennesaw State, Nevada, Osaka Gakuin of Japan, San Diego State, Tulane, Washington State, and Wyoming at the Ocean Course at Hokuala.
UH wahine golf lineup for the tournament include Jasmine Wong, Maline Kraus, Emiko Sverduk, Kaydence Kim, and Chloe Ku. Kim, a freshman from Los Angeles, will be making her UH debut. Kraus leads the leam with a 73.75 scoring average. Wong and Kraus were the team’s top finishers at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, two weeks ago.
Varnika S. Achanta, Wendy Song, and Sofina Firouzi are three other Rainbow Wahine competing as Individuals.
