HANAPEPE — The county Department of Water announced the completion of its Hanapepe-Eleele Booster Pump Station Project, and held a dedication ceremony on Aug. 1.
“This booster pump station is an unsung hero of our water system. Very few people know about it, but it’s absolutely critical for everyone in Eleele,” said DOW Manager and Chief Engineer Bryan Wienand.
“The Booster Pump Station Project will improve the resilience and reliability of the water system for our Eleele and Hanapepe customers.”
The cost of the project was $1 million. Project work included installation of a new booster pump for the Hanapepe-Eleele water system, as well as repairs to the existing pump, which will both service surrounding communities.
“It was difficult to get the electrical portion of the project working due to the isolation of the booster pumps, but the team learned together through each phase of the project and did a great job,” said Dustin Moises, DOW’s chief of construction management.
The project was completed by Wasa Electrical Services Inc. The subcontractors were Dorvin D. Leis Company Inc., and Pacific Blue Construction LLC. The Rev. Jade Waialeale-Battad of Ke Akua Mana Church performed the blessing.
