“Wow! This is what community is all about,” said Mike Vallee on his Facebook post. “We raised nearly 1,000 pounds of food, and more than $5,000 with Da Funk/Dirk Debonaire Bands’ Sixth Annual ‘Help Feed Kauai’ Free Music Festival and Food Drive on Saturday at The Anahola Marketplace. Thanks to our great bands, generous sponsors, fantastic vendors, and to all of you who came, donated, and had some fun with us.”
One of those groups included Haunani Kaui and Linda Tani of Tropical Grove, who had to be rescheduled because their gig at Na Kupuna O Kauai Legacy of Aloha at Lydgate Park was rescheduled. Haunani and Linda are recovering from the long weekend that started with Haunani showing up and performing with The Salvation Army Kupuna Luncheon at the Hanapepe Corps. Well done, and have a nice rest.
It’s the Labor Day weekend, and that means The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon is in full swing with the Wilcox Health Expo getting underway from 10 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. The expo serves as a race packet pick-up for marathon runners, as well as a central operating point for the keiki race, which kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Registration is still being taken on the Kauai Marathon website at www.thekauaimarathon.com.
The website also gives detailed traffic advisories for race day as well as special events, including the Lululemon (they lead the yoga class at the Grand Hyatt Kauai before the expo opens) Shake Out Run that starts at 6 p.m. on Friday from their shop at The Shops at Kukuiula.
And, in addition to The Kauai Marathon, there’s motorcycle racing on Saturday and Sunday, and the Garden Isle Racing Association drag races at the Kauai Raceway Park on Saturday and Sunday, too.
Be safe, Kauai!
