Happy Fourth of July, Kauai!

The Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort and Spa is celebrating with not fireworks, but flowerworks with a grand flower drop this morning. Kumu Hula Maka Herrod takes over following the drop with a series of floral workshops and crafts until the Kauai Made craft fair starts in the afternoon … mahalo, Kauai Chamber of Commerce for including that notice in the Wednesday email.

Mahalo to the U.S. Air Force Band (they were on the list of performers at America’s Most West Freedom Fest at the Pacific Missile Range Facility that, according to one of the Target associates, is one of the biggest events on Kauai because of the fireworks). The USAF Band is re-adjusting their schedule to provide a lunchtime concert at the Kukui Grove Center on the Fourth of July.

As the sun begins to hide behind the mountains, Lexi Jones said there will be a Friday night special on Kress Street so the Fourth of July excitement can carry into the night … check it out.

In the meantime, mahalo Smash Cafe for the strawberry shake that hit the spot for Koiawe and Kauahe Kanahele, the grandkids of Marty Kuala (she and her husband started Progressive Expression to start the surf fashion explosion) who is a guide with the Walking Tour of Koloa town … wow! Koloa Plantation Days has already started … what’s this year’s shirt going to be, Arryl Kaneshiro?

The Shops at Kukuiula will bring back Master Storyteller Lopaka Kapanui on July 21, and the July 23 edition of the Kauai Culinary Market will feature a Koloa Plantation Days Chef’s Demo with Living Foods.
