Happy Camper for Saturday, July 5, 2025

Happy birthday, Marty Amaro, who was wrapping up a week before the Fourth of July. Marty said they used to consider America’s Most West Freedom Fest his birthday party … kudos to the Morale, Wellness and Recreation Committee at the Pacific Missile Range Facility for hosting the event! And who else in the Class of 2025 Licensed Practical Nurses class had a birthday?

Also, happy retirement to Kauai Community College Nursing Professor Maureen “Mo” Tabura who is enjoying her final month … Thursday’s graduating class (and who was late because of all that traffic heading to PMRF?) is her last one before retiring at the end of July.

Marty of the KCC Culinary Arts Department said 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is a good partner because not only do they support the program financially, they provide opportunities for the students to visit the Princeville property to cook alongside the resort’s culinary team … priceless!

Mahalo, Johnette Kalama of Charmers of Kona for calling the Kukui Grove Center before calling to cancel her trip to Kauai on July Fourth. Johnette got help from Kauai girl Tasha Moe when she partnered with other Kauai vendors like Hiipoi with her Niihau shell jewelry, and High Vizion.

Kudos to the Kauai Brass Ensemble on getting Heidi Purcell to sit in as a guest piccolo player, and kudos to Ryan Girard for adjusting the ensemble’s play list to showcase the piccolo. Members of the U.S. Air Force Band interrupted their pre-gig lunch to stand at attention when the ensemble rendered both the national and state anthems, and the military medley that included the Space Force.
