Kudos to Kauai High School on efforts to share victory and glory with others like the feeder schools, students with special needs and the community.
Dustin Moises, the parent of a Kauai High School athlete, a Swim Kauai Aquatics volunteer, and announcer for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation swim meets, heaped praise on student athlete Ethan Teves for completing the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle (Kauai High School athlete Brandon Lin earned one of three qualifying spots in this event) in a time that was faster than last week’s meet where a parent spectator noted the rousing cheers Ethan got from both spectators and fellow KIF athletes … Great job, Ethan, and support crew!
The sense of inclusivity (how’s that for a new word?) spread to the Muumuu Paina (and month-long celebration) where everyone, including kupuna to special guests, enjoyed the muumuu and its related closet of accessories like the vintage Coco Palms purse that was fashioned from real coconut. Mahalo to Shannon Hiramoto for taking note of the muumuu back in 2014, or was it 2015 when rain pelted the Lawai Cannery Warehouse (it’s now called Warehouse 3540 … is the chicken place still there?) and only a few people, including Mayor Maryanne Kusaka, who enjoyed muumuu memories came to visit Shannon and her Machinemachine space that she shared with her father Charlie Hiramoto and his offset printing presses.
There’s only a week remaining before the Year of the Snake arrives with its schedule of lunar new year festivities at The Shops at Kukuiula (remember all those people in Chinese dress amidst the firecrackers and Chinese lion?) and at the Kukui Grove Center. How about Hokulei Village where last year, the lion made its way through the aisles at Safeway?
