Miss Kauai Filipina contestant Ciaralan Tolentino was surprised at the number of cigarette butts were just tossed on the lawn when she joined the Kauai Filipino Community Council group that met at the Hanamaulu Beach Park for its monthly clean up on the third Sunday … President Nancy Apalla said her husband (he’s with the Philippine Island Hawaii Island, or PIHI, bicycle group) has been eyeing the railroad trestle that is part of the Kauai Pathways long-term plans to Nawiliwili.
Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant Contestant Coordinator Liz Kawamura said this year’s pageant (and, we have the Miss Hawaii Filipina state pageant on Kauai in August) is lucky to have the help of a Philippines teacher, Jordan, who has an extensive background in stage productions in the Philippines.
Carol Yotsuda has a graduation on Oahu Friday night, but will be back on Kauai to open the Boroboro Boutique and all its grandma-style, hands-on learning and sewing from Saturday through Monday at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery at the Kukui Grove Center. Carol said Shannon Hiramoto’s dad Charlie is supposed to bring his press so people can print some of the cards, and someone else is bringing the hand-powered Singer sewing machine.
Mahalo to Steve and Janine Hunt for allowing use of their lakeside (Lion Gary Pacheco said he used to fish there) property to the North Shore Lions Club and its scholarship get-together where alumni of the Kilauea Elementary School were doing reunion photos. Sage and Ginger’s (she used to write for Midweek before coming home to Kauai) mom Sue Martin Keller was a key figure with the Kauai County Fair where Ginger would do microphone duty to help out Sen. Billy Fernandez.
