Hilo transfer station to open today after closure

The Hilo transfer station will open at normal hours today after closing Friday afternoon due to a vehicle wreck.

Greg Goodale, county solid waste division chief, said a tractor trailer turned on its side, partially blocking the access road at around 3 p.m.

He said the transfer station closed for the rest of the day to allow the vehicle to be removed.

No injuries were reported.
