LIHUE — Personnel from the Kauai Fire Department rescued an injured 72-year-old Swiss visitor from Hanakapiai Beach on the Kalalau Trail on Saturday.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hiker shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Personnel with Lihue Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker at Hanakapiai Beach with an apparent head injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene to control bleeding.
The hiker was then taken to the Hanakapiai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to Hanalei Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly before 1:20 p.m.
