Kapaa girls volleyball win DII championship

HONOLULU — Kapaa High School girls volleyball beat Seabury Hall in five sets on Saturday to claim the New City Nissan Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II state championships at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

Additionally, senior Carlyn Kamoku-Rapozo, the outside hitter for the team coached by Paea Tafea, was voted Most Outstanding Player for the Division II All-Tournament team. Joining Kamoku-Rapozo on the All-Tournament Team was Kapaa libero Mandy Gokan, and another Lady Warrior outside hitter, Kuuipo Hunt.

Receiving the No. 4 seed for the tournament presented by Hawaii Army National Guard, Kapaa started its journey to the DII crown during the quarterfinals where the Lady Warriors got past No. 5 Roosevelt High School in four sets, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.

The quarterfinals demonstrated the tight competition that took the floor at Kalani High School during the preliminary rounds as three of the four matches being fought went into extra sets. The exception was the DII bracket’s top seed, University Lab Schools advancing in straight sets over Kau High School.

Kapaa met that challenge head-on Friday night in the semifinals when the school from the hill beat the top seeded University in straight sets, 26-24, 25-22, and 24-21 to face the No. 3 Seabury Hall in the title fight on Saturday.

After gaining control over Seabury in the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-23, Kapaa came up short of closing the door in the next two sets, 21-25, and 21-25. The Lady Warriors finally closed the door, 15-13 in the fifth set.

During the championship round against Seabury, Kamoku-Rapozo led Kapaa with 31 kills, an ace, four blocks, and 14 digs. Hunt rounded out the effort with 14 kills, six aces, and 21 digs. Libero Gokan finished with 16 digs, and setter Kanani Silva marked 48 assists along with a kill, and an ace.

Kapaa girls volleyball finishes the 2025 season with a perfect 15-0 record after going undefeated in Kauai Interscholastic Federation league play, and the HHSAA Division II state play.
