Kauaʻi Xi Chapter offers teaching scholarship

LIHU‘E — The Xi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society has a scholarship to award to a Kaua‘i graduating high school senior with an interest in pursuing a teaching career.

Students already enrolled in an accredited teaching program on Kaua‘i will also be considered.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and its variants has led to a critical shortage of teachers,” said Cinthy Kagawa of the Xi Chapter. “Our organization offers our scholarship to encourage those who are seriously thinking of a career in education.”

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in recognition of a student’s academic achievement, active participation in extracurricular activities and demonstration of leadership qualities.

The scholarship is for one year and may not be renewed. It may be used at any two- or four-year accredited institution of higher learning.

The deadline for application submissions is April 15.

Applications are available through high school counselors and the Kaua‘i Community College financial aid office.

Some previous recipients include Kelvin Ibia, Chloe Zumwalt, Taylor Relacion, Grace Yatsko, Caitlin Tellis, Nicole Carney, Tyler Yamamoto, Nikki-Ann Vea and Amber Fujimoto.

The organization is comprised of women educators who work with learners and is dedicated to promoting educational excellence.
