PUHI — Kauai High School Boys cross country team, and Kapaa High School girls cross country team each won their division race, and also secured the Kauai Interscholastic Federation Championships on Saturday during the KIF Championships that Island School hosted on a course laid out on the Voyager campus.
The Red Raider Boys collected 17 points to secure the KIF championship after the Kauai team finished first in the dual-points Saturday run. After placing its top five scoring runners in the race’s Top 10, the Red Raiders collected 22 points for the race.
Waimea’s Cedric Crampton Nabaa set the pace for the 30-runner field by finishing first on a run that stopped the clocks at 18 minutes, 25.26 seconds. The following four scoring runners were spread through the Top 18 to earn second-place honors at 51 points.
Kapaa and Island School teams tied for third-place honors with 77 points.
For the overall championships, Waima collected 12 points for second place, and Kapaa finished the season with seven points for third place.
The Kapaa High School Girls’ cross country team earned first place in all of the KIF cross country races in the season, including the Saturday championship run. The Lady Warriors earned 18 points and the crown.
The Kauai High School Girls, whose Aileah Villatora set the pace for the 30-runner field by crossing the finish line first on a run that stopped the clock at 22:14.16, finished the season with 10 points and the second-place crown.
Island School Girls earned seven points, and Waimea High School finished with a point.
With championships under their belts, the Kauai Boys and the Kapaa Girls will send seven runners apiece to the 2025 Honolulu Marathon Hawaii High School Athletic Association Cross Country State Championships presented by Hawaii Army National Guard at the Central Oahu Regional Park on Nov. 1.
The team runners will be joined by seven runners in the Boys division, including Cedric Crampton Nabaa (Wai), Khyler Greenleaf (IS), Hezekiah Salazar (Wai), Blevin Hale (Wai), Callum Raine (IS), Colten Nagahisa (Kap), and Makoa Rubio-Cummings (Kap).
The eight individual Girls division runners include Aileah Villatora (Kau), Cora Rosenthal (IS), Eva-Rose Rapp (IS), Laney Carvalho (Kau), Jules Eyler (Kau), Zoe Dorrow Mochary (IS), Seija Carter (Wai), and Jayna Sams (Wai).
