LIHUE — The Kauai Filipino Women’s Club and two of its affiliated organizations — Kauai Pangasinan Association and Laoag Sranay Association — took time on Sunday to recognize 13 students who received scholarship from the group of organizations.
Joined by 2025 Miss Kauai Filipina and the 2024 Miss Hawaii Filipina, the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club distributed nine $1,500 scholarships to seniors who graduated. The Pangasinan Association presented three scholarships and the Laoag Saranay Association presented three scholarships at the informal brunch that was held at the Lihue Neighborhood Center where members of the Bailes de Jose were rehearsing in preparation for the state convention of Filipino Community Councils in August.
The highlight of the convention that will be held on Kauai is the selection of the 2025 Miss Hawaii Filipina at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
Kauai High School graduate JBMhar Trinidad, and Matthew Melchor, a graduate from Kapaa High School, were each honored for receiving two of the scholarships being awarded. Trinidad was the recipient of scholarships from the Kauai Pangasinan Association and Laoag Saranay, while Melchor was recipient of scholarships being awarded by the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club and Laoag Saranay.
Jaevynn Navarro, a Kauai High School graduate, was the recipient of the third Laoag Saranay scholarship.
Breanne Battulayan, a graduate of Kauai High School, and Kameryn Alisna, also a Kauai High School graduate, were recipients of scholarships presented by the Kauai Pangasinan Association.
The recipients of scholarships from the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club included Austin Green, a Kapaa High School graduate, Amelia Abigania, a Kauai High School graduate, Luke Gandeza, also a Red Raider graduate, and Hailey Martinez, a Kauai graduate. Emily Racpan is the sole Island School graduate to earn a Kauai Filipino Women’s Club award.
Taylee Yamamoto, Margarita Lomongo and Kendra Suga were Waimea High School graduates honored with Kauai Filipino Women’s Club scholarship awards.
Funds for the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club are primarily derived from the group’s signature fundraising event, the Terno Ball, that takes place later in the fall. Tickets for the gala will be announced when details for the 2025 Terno Ball are finalized.
