Kauai marks year’s first traffic fatality

LIHUE — A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene following a traffic-related crash on Sunday night.

Officers with the Kauai Police Department reported that first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Kaumaualii Highway near Hoomana Road in Lihue for a traffic-related motorcycle crash.

At approximately 11 p.m. a man was traveling eastbound on a 2008 Honda motorcycle when he lost control and crashed.

Once on the scene, first responders found Good Samaritans administering CPR to the victim who suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions for approximately two hours while KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted their on-scene investigation. The victim was then transported to the Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue, where he was pronounced dead.

Their investigation found that speed and weather conditions did appear to be suspected factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, marking Kauai’s first traffic fatality of 2025.

Individuals who may have witnessed the crash are encouraged to call Officer Henshaw at 808-241-1616. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call CrimeStoppers Kauai at 808-246-8300.
