Kekaha road closures extended through March 31

KALAHEO — The Department of Water (DOW) announced that its contractor has extended the road closures for the Kalaheo Water Systems Improvements Project to March 31.

The contractor, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc., has extended the intermittent road closures for further excavation and waterline work that remains to be conducted on Poohiwi Road and along portions of Puuwai Road.

Notices have been posted reminding motorists and residents of the intermittent road closures.

The public is reminded that all work is dependent on the weather. Flaggers and signs will be present throughout the month during the construction work at the following locations to direct traffic:

• Road closure on a portion of Puuwai Road – A road closure will be in place on Puuwai Road, between the intersection of Kikala Road and Poohiwi Road, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drivers are encouraged to use Kikala Road as an alternate route.

• Road work on Puuwai Road — Road work will take place on Puuwai Road between the junction of Puuwai Road and Puulima Road and the beginning of the Clearwell Reservoir access road. Additionally, please exercise caution while traveling along the Clearwell Reservoir access road, as dump trucks will operate on this route.

• Road closures along portions of Poohiwi Road — Between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, portions of Poohiwi Road will be closed for fifty minutes.
