LIHUE — The Island School girls soccer team got a taste of excitement Wednesday when the squad got together at the Wilcox Gymnasium to celebrate the achievements of Chloe Ayonon, who committed to play soccer for the University of Nevada, Reno, a Division I school, on National Letter Signing Day.
The Voyager girls soccer team’s excitement was a preview of things to come as the Kauai Interscholastic Federation firmed up its preseason schedule that star ted Friday afternoon when Na Alii wahine from Aiea High School on Oahu tangled with the Kapaa High School girls.
At the same time, the Voyager girls took the field at the Puhi campus to host the Hilo High School girls, a Division I team from the Big Island. Traditionally, Hilo has been visiting Kauai as part of the Vikings’ preseason, and a preview of the Big Island Candies soccer tournament on Hawaii Island.
Hilo will match up with Kauai High School girls soccer on Saturday at the Island School field, starting at 8 a.m. before moving to the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium for a 3 p.m. game against the Kapaa girls soccer. The Vikings wrap up their Kauai tour on Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. with a match against the Waimea High School girls at Hanapepe Stadium.
The boys soccer teams get their opportunity on the field when the Kaiser High School boys soccer team wrangled against the Kapaa boys, defending KIF champions, on Friday at the BJB stadium.
Kaiser moves to the Hanapepe Stadium on Saturday where they meet the Waimea boys in a game that starts at 10 a.m. before moving on to the Island School field to match up against the Voyager men starting at 3:30 p.m.
Action and excitement overflows to the boys basketball courts, starting on Monday when Kapaa High School boys basketball hosts Roosevelt High School in a contest that tips off at 7 p.m. at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
Waimea will host the Rough Riders on Tuesday at the Clem Gomes Gym in a 6:30 p.m. tipoff, and the Kauai Red Raiders will host Roosevelt at the new Kauai High School gymnasium with a 4 p.m. tipoff.
The Rough Riders close its Kauai tour at the Wilcox Gymnasium on the Island School campus with a meeting against the Voyager boys hoopsters in a 7 p.m. contest.
Kauai, and the KIF wrap up the fall season of high school sporting events on Nov. 22 when the KIF host the semifinal games of both the Division I, and Division II state football championships.
The Division I semifinals featuring the tournament’s top seed Kapaa will play at the BJB stadium with a 2 p.m. kickoff, and the Division II semifinals featuring the No. 2 seed Waimea High School will play at the Hanapepe Stadium with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
