KOKEE — Kauai Fire Department firefighters contained a brush fire in the Kokee area, near mile marker 4, early Thursday morning. The fire was reported shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday and the size of the blaze was estimated to be 10 acres.
No injuries or damaged structures have been reported at this time.
According to a preliminary report, crews worked throughout the night and successfully contained the fire. Crews are returning this morning to finish mopping up and to ensure no further hot spots remain.
Crews with the Hanapepe, Kalaheo and Waimea fire stations, Rescue 3, Tender 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief are responding to this incident. The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife assisted in the incident, providing mutual aid.
The Kauai Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the incident.
