Lions give scholarships to 3 Kaua‘i High seniors

LIHU‘E — The East Kaua‘i Lions Club awarded three $1,000 scholarships to Kaua‘i High seniors.

Tia Fulks, daughter of Charles and Doris Fulks of Lihu‘e, plans on obtaining a degree in medical imaging. A member of the Leo Club, she has donated many hours in community service to the food bank, Kamalani workday activities, and The Salvation Army bell ringing. She has been involved with community-service activities with the Girl Scouts, Hawai‘i youth soccer, the school’s tennis team, Nature Club, Japanese Club, Kumu’s Cupboard, Health Occupations Students of America, and has been a shearwater volunteer and Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative Youth Tour participant.

Eryka Napoleon, daughter of Eric and Tammie Napoleon of Lihu‘e, plans on a business administration career. She was Leo Club president, Nature Club vice president and the National Honor Society treasurer. As a Leo she has volunteered at the Kaua‘i food banks, at the Regency of Puakea, and in beach cleanups, was a member of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion varsity soccer team, involved with the Spanish Club, and is the founder of Freight Forwarders of Kaua‘i Club.

Macy Melchor lives in Koloa and is the daughter of Noel and Mimi Melchor. She plans to attend Washington State University to pursue a degree in nursing, intent on obtaining a master’s degree in nursing or becoming a doctor. She was active with HOSA, varsity soccer, LEO (Leadership, Experience and Opportunity) Club, at her church assisted with helping homeless people, volunteered with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Hawi‘i, and was a teacher’s assistant.

The East Kaua‘i Lions Club honored these seniors with scholarship checks without having a ceremony because of the coronavirus and quarantine rules.
