Maui’s Plantation course to reopen in November but Sentry cancelled for 2026

Kapalua Golf announced on Wednesday its Plantation Course will be open to the public in November. But The Sentry tournament still won’t be played there in January — or anywhere at all in 2026, which was also announced Wednesday, by the PGA Tour and Sentry Insurance.

“We are excited to announce that the Kapalua Plantation Course will re-open for play on November 10, 2025! Guests will be able to book November tee times starting (today) at 7:30am HST,” according to the golfatkapalua.com website.

Due to drought conditions on Maui and other “logistical challenges” the Tour announced Sept. 16 that The Sentry would not be played at Kapalua. Wednesday’s news release that The Sentry will not be played anywhere in 2026 makes the Sony Open in Hawaii at Waialae Country Club on Jan. 12-18 the opening event of the PGA Tour schedule, followed by the Champions Tour season-starter, the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai Golf Course on Hawaii Island the next week.

Alternate sites, including in Hawaii, were considered before completely canceling The 2026 Sentry and PGA Tour officials remain in communication with Hawaii Gov. Josh Green and “respective local stakeholders.”

Green is quoted in the release from the PGA and Sentry.

“We are appreciative of the PGA Tour’s thorough effort and communication throughout this process,” Green said. “Though we’re disappointed The Sentry will not be contested in 2026, we are excited that the beauty and Aloha Spirit of the islands will be showcased to fans around the world at the Sony Open in Hawaii and with the PGA Tour Champions eventat Hualalai. On behalf of our communities, we are grateful to Sentry Insurance for their continued support and partnership.”

The chances of Kapalua or some other course hosting The Sentry in the future and the future of the Sony Open in Hawaii is unknown, according to the PGA. The existing contract with Sony as title sponsor expires after the 2026 event.

Kapalua will charge $399 per round in November, according to the website.

“As of today, we are still working to restore two greens,” according to the website. “If only 16 holes are available on day of play, players will be given a $50 shop credit. The Bay Course will remain closed at this time.”
