ELEELE — Law enforcement identified the man involved in the single-vehicle crash in Eleele last Friday as Ronald Valdez.
On Friday, Feb. 21, officers with the Kauai Police Department (KPD) responded to a call about a single-vehicle crash in Eleele at approximately 6:20 p.m.
It was reported that a 2002 Dodge truck traveling eastbound on Kaumualii Highway struck the guardrail fronting the Eleele Shopping Center. Upon arrival, officers, along with emergency personnel, discovered the man unresponsive.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue, where he was pronounced dead.
On Thursday, Feb. 27, it was reported that the autopsy revealed that Valdez’s death was due to a medical emergency he suffered while driving and is not related to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
