Lunch for first responders meant more that just whetting appetites at The Club at Kukuiula.
Similar to the multi-agency fire mitigation exercises taking place in Kaumakani, the journey to The Club at Kukuiula, located in the heart of the Kukuiula development, the trip for food and gift cards served as a familiarization tour, especially for the island’s sole ladder truck and ambulances.
Following 15 years of growth, the familiarization tour was aimed at improving response time to incidents within the community that continues to grow.
Kukuiula and McBryde Resources, earning the perpetual trophy during the recent historic Koloa Plantation Days parade, decided it would share its prize — food from the Kauai Poke Company and Taylor Sakimae — with the community’s first responders, including the Kauai Police Department, the Kauai Fire Department, the Ocean Safety Bureau, and American Medical Response.
“We want to extend a mahalo to the heroes who watch over our island, and we hope this small gesture helps to show our sincere appreciation for their service and dedication,” said Trinette Kaui, McBryde Resources vice president of Land Assets and Community Relations.
Kaui was joined by Darlene Yamase, Patti Kamakea, Brian Hallber, Raydene Gampon, Todd Michaelsen, Barak Aviguetero, Shaydon Moises, Gloria Bonilla, Brenda Sameshima, Kelsey Basa, Makoa Kaneaakala, Ginny Agena, Kawehi Louis-Diamond, Jason Dameron and Shelly Gerardo, who said the organizer of the event, Tammy Puu, was out due to illness.
The sight of the fleet of emergency vehicles, especially the ladder fire truck, all parked under the canopy of the central banyan tree also served to stoke the excitement of keiki participating in Keiki Camp.
