KEALIA – Kauai Ocean Safety Bureau officials advise no swimming or ocean activities at Kealia Beach and Hanalei Bay following a shark sighting.
OSB officials reported sightings of 8-foot sharks at Kealia Beach around 3 p.m. and at Hanalei Bay around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Later, OSB officials reported an 8-foot shark at Hanalei Bay at about 5 p.m. the same day.
No injuries were reported. As a safety measure, OSB posted warning signs and will monitor the area.
Lifeguards will continue to reassess the area. If there are no additional shark sightings, Kealia Beach will reopen to ocean activities at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 24 hours after the sighting. Hanalei Bay will reopen at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, also 24 hours after its sighting. Updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
