HANALEI — An overnight brush fire broke out in Wainiha on Kauai’s North Shore over the weekend.
Firefighters with the Hanalei Fire Station responded to a brush fire in Wainiha at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Friday. Fire crews arrived at Kuhio Highway near Mile Marker 5 and discovered a blaze mauka in an area out of reach.
At around 1:10 a.m., on Saturday, first responders closed the highway near Lumahai Beach while they monitored the blaze with support from Kauai’s Emergency Management Agency KEMA.
Crews worked overnight and cleared the scene at around 2:30 a.m. as the fire weakened. However, due to the fire being impassible by foot, Air 1 conducted an aerial investigation and reported no immediate threat to any homes.
Fire personnel officially cleared the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and reported no injuries.
