Princeville Library offer nature programs

Two programs are coming up at the Princeville Public Library.

Kumu Hula Kehaulani Kekua will discuss the importance of ohi‘a in hula and the Hawaiian culture in a program set for 5 p.m. Oct. 23.

Kim Rogers of the Kauai Invasive Species Committee will provide an update on Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death.

Mike DeMotta of the National Tropical Botanical Garden will share how to grow ‘ohi‘a on Kauai.

A presentation on humpback whales is scheduled 5 p.m. Oct. 24.

Guest lecturer Ed Lyman will outline how humpback whale populations in Hawaii have undergone major changes in recent years. He will explain what might be causing it, monitoring efforts and how these changes may relate to entanglement threats.

Lyman is the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary’s Natural resource specialist and large whale entanglement response coordinator.
