LIHUE — Rolling behind the high game from Yasmien Panoy, the Kauai High School girls edged out the Menehune girls by a mere three pins — 1907 pinfall to Waimea’s 1904 pinfall — following the Kauai Interscholastic Federation bowling matches held at Kauai Bowl.
The win puts the Red Raider ladies at 1.5 points in the standings, compared with Waimea’s .5 point following the two teams ending last week in a tie.
The Kapaa girls’ high game belonged to Alina Abell as the Lady Warriors finished with 1907 pinfall.
On the boys’ lanes, last week Kapaa’s William Kimura’s scores were inadvertently missed — Kimura rolled a 193-204-210. This week, Kimura, who Coach Kevin Gusman described as the team’s anchor, rolled games of 235, 189, and 244 in an effort that fell Short as Kapaa boys logged a 2361 pinfall, good enough for third place.
Waimea High Schools boys finished this week, wining the top spot with a 2712 pinfall. This puts Kapaa and Waimea in a tie with a point apiece following the second week of KIF bowling.
Kanuikapono Charter School in Anahola sent down a contingent of a junior and five 10th grade bowlers. The team finished with a 1219 pinfall set up by the high game from sophomore Craig Kaleihiwa Harada who rolled a team high 126.
The KIF bowlers take to the lanes again on Thursday starting with warmups at 4:30 p.m. at the Kauai Bowl.
