Residents to have a say in wildfire preparedness and mitigation

LIHUE — Kauai residents are invited to join a discussion about new state legislation and funding, insights from the Lahaina, Maui, and Kaumakani, Kauai, and steps residents and landowners can take to strengthen Kauai’s resilience, together when the Kauai delegation hosts a Wildfire Preparedness and Mitigation Town Hall on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center.

The Town Hall is held in partnership with Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization, the Office of the State Fire Marshall, Kauai Emergency Management Agency, and the Kauai Fire Department.

The evening will feature a presentation followed by a question and answer with an expert panel.

Some of the anticipated attendees include Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi, House Speaker Nadine Nakamura, House Majority Leader Dee Morikawa, House Committee on Housing Chair Luke Evslin, Co-Executive Director Elizabeth Pickett, Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization, State Fire Marshal Dorothy Booth, Office of the State Fire Marshal, Administrator Elton Ushio, Kauai Emergency Management Agency, and Chief Michael Gibson, Kauai Fire Department.
