LIHUE — A number of road-related projects are on tap in the days ahead with grass cutting, tree trimming and guardrail repair making up the bulk of the work, the Hawaii Department of Transportation said in an update on Friday.
In observance of Statehood Day Friday, August 15 there will be no contraflow and lane closures unless otherwise permitted. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. The following is a list of projects scheduled for the workweek ending Friday. All work is weather permitting.
Pua loke
Shoulder closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) in the southbound direction, between mile post .51 to .53 in the vicinity of Uahi Road, from Saturday, August 9 to Tuesday, August 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for waterline tie in.
Right lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) in the eastbound direction, between mile post .63 to 1.9 in the vicinity of Nawiliwili Road and Anonui Street, from Monday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for restriping of crosswalks.
Kipu
Roving lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 2.9 to 8.7 in the vicinity of Kipu Road and Omao Road, nightly from Sunday, August 10 to Friday, August 15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping.
Omao
Right lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 9 to 10 in the vicinity of Upa Road and Akemama Road, nightly from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13 from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. for cutting grass and tree trimming.
Lihue
Right lane closure on Kapule Highway (Route 51) in the northbound direction, between mile post 1.6 to 1.9, in the vicinity of Kaana Street and Ahukini Road, 24 hours 7 days a week beginning on Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 29 for sewer line installation.
Kapaa
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 8 to 9.5, in the vicinity of Akia Road, nightly on Sunday, August 10 to Friday, August 15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping and marking installation. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Wailua
Two lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 5.6 to 5.9, in the vicinity of Wailua Bridge, on Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for bridge repair. There will be one lane of traffic open in both directions.
Two lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) in the southbound direction, between mile post 5.8 to 6.2, in the vicinity of Wailua Bridge, on Monday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 13 from 1 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. for cutting grass.
Kilauea
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 23.2 to 23.6, in the vicinity of Kolo Road and Kalamania Road, nightly on Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving.
Princeville
Alternating single lane closure building to a full closure of Kuhio Highway (Route 560) in the vicinity of Hanalei Plantation Road and Ohiki Road, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 11 to Thursday, Aug. 14 for asphalt reconstruction. Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 24.4 to 28.1, in the vicinity of Kahiliholo Road to Emmalani Drive, on Sunday, August 10 to Friday, August 15 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for rumble strip installation and striping.
Hanalei
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 1.2 to 1.9, in the vicinity of Ohiki Road, on Monday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for clearing of inlets and outlets.
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) in the Haena bound direction between mile post 2.7 to 3.3, between the Tahiti Nui and Anae Road, on Monday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for concrete and shoulder work. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Waikoko
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 4.3 to 4.5, in the vicinity of Waikoko Bridge and Lumahai Trailhead, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for slope stabilization of Waikoko Hillside. Numila
Right lane closure on Halewili Road (Route 540) possible in either direction between mile post 2 to 3, on Monday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for fire break maintenance.

Right lane closure on Waimea Canyon Drive (Route 550) possible in either direction between mile post 1 to 3, in the vicinity of Maule Road on Monday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for fire break maintenance.
Single lane closure on Waimea Canyon Drive (Route 550) possible in either direction between mile post 4.6 to 11.5, on Monday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for installation of BMP (Best Management Practices), grubbing, and clearing. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Kapaia
Right lane closure on Maalo Road (Route 583) possible in either direction the between mile post 1.5 to 3.9, on Saturday, August 9 from 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for cutting grass.
