Thanksgiving turkeys go out

There were at least 500 turkeys being given to Kauai families on Saturday during the big Hawaii Foodbank Kauai drive-through food distribution at the Kauai Community College.

“We couldn’t do all this by ourselves,” said Tisha Remigio, the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai assistant director. “We appreciate the help from all our volunteer partners, including the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association, Kauai Chapter, the Kauai High School Academy of Tourism and Travel that came early to help pack the produce packages, some of the Kauai Lions Club — others are at the Safeway Stores food drive, and the Hawaii Foodservice Alliance whose trucks and crew kept the turkeys safe for all the food recipients.”

Samira Siale, the HLTA, Kauai director, said the HLTA is appreciative and grateful for all the help Kauai gives the association throughout the year, especially with the Visitor Industry Charity Walk. The HLTA group included managers, staff, and associates from resorts representing different parts of the island.

“We so appreciate Kauai, and the people,” Siale said. “We could not, not do this. This one’s for you, Kauai.”

The Kauai Independent Food Bank, located in Nawiliwili, will be hosting a food distribution on Wednesday, starting at 1 p.m. at the Kauai Veterans Center, adjacent to the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields and behind The Kauai Bus facility.
