LIHUE — On Tuesday, a Tennessee visitor was rescued after an apparent heatstroke on the Kalalau Trail.
Fire officials reported that on April 8, at approximately 5:30 p.m., firefighters with the Hanalei Fire Station and Ocean Safety Bureau personnel were dispatched to a call regarding a distressed hiker on the Kalalau Trail.
Both rescue crews hiked approximately one mile into the trail and discovered the man with apparent heat exhaustion signs. Crews assisted the hiker out of Kalalau just after sunset. The awaiting American Medical Response medical team assessed the man on site and reported that no medical care was required.
First responders cleared the scene a little after 7:30 p.m.
