Waimea Field closed until 2026

WAIMEA — The Department of Parks and Recreation announced that Waimea Cook Field and tennis courts will be closed until January 2026 for construction work.

The contractor, Jas. W. Glover, Ltd., along with funding partner Capital Improvement Plan CIP, will begin staging the location of the Waimea Cook Field on Monday, March 10; however, the project will officially break ground on the 3.2 million dollar, ten-month project on Friday, March 14.

The closure is necessary to resurface the tennis court along with upgrades consisting of repairing the rock wall foundation of the tennis courts, removing and replacing deteriorated court surfaces, painting new court surfaces and sports lines (with two courts dedicated to tennis and two courts designated for mixed use of tennis and pickleball) , replacing fences and gates, installing new tennis nets, repairing the retaining rock wall, and replacing fluorescent lights with LED fixtures.

Additionally, parking along the west side of Ola Road, from the tennis courts down to Kaumualii Highway, will be closed to the public beginning Monday. Parking along Tsuchiya Road adjacent to the tennis courts will also be off-limits.

It is also important to note that the construction staging area will be located along the left field side of the park, below the tennis courts. The Waimea Cook Field is scheduled to reopen in January 2026; the public is reminded that all construction work is dependent on the weather .
