‘ELE‘ELE — The county Department of Water announced two water shutdowns this week, in Wailua Homesteads and ‘Ele‘ele.
On March 4 and 5, DOW has scheduled a temporary water-service shutdown for customers located on Waialo Road, Okupu Street, Olali Street, Manawanui Court, Mana Olana Court, harbor access road and Aka Ula Street in ‘Ele‘ele. Water service will be turned off on Wednesday, March 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and on Thursday, March 5, weather-permitting, in order to connect a new, 12-inch main line to the existing system, as part of the Hanapepe-Ele’ele Water Systems Improvements Project.
DOW will also be shutting down water service on March 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for customers on a portion of Pu‘uopae Road between Opaeka‘a Road and Kalakea Road, and including Holio Road, Kalama Road and Kipapa Road in Wailua Homesteads, weather-permitting.
The water-service shutdown is necessary in order to allow a private contractor, Drayko Construction Inc. to tie-in a new water line to the existing water system.
Customers located in the affected areas are advised to prepare for the service shutdown by taking the
following steps:
w Store enough water to meet needs during the shutdown;
w Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors that may be affected by the service shutdown;
w Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown;
w Businesses should plan appropriately prior to and during the service shutdowns;

A trailer-mounted water tanker containing potable water will be available for use on Waialo Road during the service shutdown. Customers in that area must bring their own water containers to fill up if needed.
