From the depths of the line of people waiting for free Jack O Lantern pumpkins on Wednesday, a tiny voice overpowered the music of the John Rivera trio and din of waiting pumpkin seekers and shoppers at The Kauai Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukuiula. “There’s Santa!”
“How perfect is this?” Santa in Paradise, also known as Phil Worwa, said. “I have my suit created by Adele’s of Hollywood, and I’m making my rounds, getting photographs of all the stops I’ll be doing during the holidays.”
After greeting the child, Santa continued his rounds, heading to other destinations such as the Seaview Terrace at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort &Spa.
The Shops at Kukuiula, with the support of the Harvest Festival, gave away approximately 250 pumpkins for free, each pumpkin accompanied by a large shopping bag emblazoned with the Harvest Festival and Aloun Farms logo.
Pilare Mukai, special events coordinator at The Shops, said people who missed the Wednesday pumpkin giveaway or wanted an extra pumpkin can attend the next giveaway on Saturday at The Grove Farm Market in Puhi.
Harvest Festival, which has already distributed over 1,000 free pumpkins, will deliver the final batch before Halloween to The Grove Farm Market at the Puhi park open field behind Kauai Harley Davidson. The free pumpkin giveaway starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday while supplies last.
Mukai said more Halloween fun happens at The Shops this weekend with the Trunk or Treat with Kauai Classic Car Club and Earthworks Pacific on Friday, starting at 5 p.m.
“Face Painting will be set up outside Olu Kai from 4:30 p.m.,” Mukai said. “Wear your favorite costume to the Trunk or Treat, which will feature our ‘Cruise and Show’ Halloween theme, as part of the weekend’s combined festivities.”
The event will be held in The Shops’ south parking lot, behind the Long’s Drugs CVS green barn, providing a central location for all the weekend’s Halloween celebrations.
