WAILUA — A woman suffered fatal injuries following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Kuamoo Road near Melia Street.
On Tuesday, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a 2019 Nissan van was traveling westbound on Kuamoo Road when a 2006 Honda sedan traveling eastbound crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the van.
The driver of the Honda sedan was identified as Moani Kalima, a 25-year-old woman from Anahola. She was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The operator of the Nissan van, a 50-year-old man from Kapaa, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Kuamoo Road was closed in both directions for approximately 2.5 hours while the Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that speed appears to be a contributing factor, and toxicology results are pending to determine whether impairment also played a role. The investigation remains ongoing.
This is Kauai’s seventh traffic fatality of 2025.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Officer Himongala at (808) 241-1617.
