HONOLULU – Each year, Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i recognizes three of Hawaii’s most distinguished leaders through its annual Women of Distinction event.
This year’s theme centers around resilience, community and action. These honorees have taken exceptional steps to help the community during these challenging times.
The 2021 Women of Distinction include Dr. Jill Hoggard Green and Sherry Menor-McNamara, as well as a special recognition to Dr. Mark Mugiishi and the senior executive team at Hawai‘i Medical Service Association for its work in mentoring and advancing women in the workplace.
The 2021 Women of Distinction event will be held virtually on Friday, March 5.
“It’s always a privilege to celebrate the accomplishments of Hawai‘i’s women leaders, as well as those who elevate them to senior roles in business and industry,” said Shari Chang, CEO of Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i.
“Their work exemplifies the leadership, resilience and sense of self that we teach girls about through the Girl Scout leadership experience.”
Green is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) on Before joining QHS, she served as Chief Operating Officer of Mission Health, a Top 15 Health System, and President of Mission Hospital, headquartered in Asheville, NC. Prior to Mission Health, Green served as Chief Operating Officer of the Oregon Region of Peace Health. A registered nurse whose career includes work with the oncology and bone marrow transplant units at a Level I trauma facility and at leading hospitals, ambulatory, and home health services in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, Green has dedicated her life to improving patient care. In December 2020, she was appointed to the Board of Commissioners of The Joint Commission. She also currently serves on the boards of Child and Family Service, Hawaii Cancer Consortium, and Hawaii Homeless Healthcare Hui.
Menor-McNamara is the youngest and first female President and CEO in the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii’s 170-year history, as well as the first Asian American to serve as the leader of a State Chamber in the nation. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, Board of Trustees of the JAIMS Foundation, Executive Committee and Board of Directors for Move Oahu Forward, and Advisory Council of the Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders. Nationally, she serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Council of State Chambers, the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, and Western Association of Chamber Executives, as well as on the U.S. Chamber’s Committee of 100.
Mugiishi has served as president and CEO of HMSA since February 2020. For the majority of his career, he practiced and taught surgery in private practice and in association with the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. In addition to his leadership at HMSA, Mugiishi co-founded the Endoscopy Institute of Hawaii and the Eye Surgery Center of Hawaii and was a medical director at Hawaii technology accelerators. He currently serves as chair of the Iolani School Board of Governors.
The 2021 Women of Distinction virtual event will feature video presentations of this year’s honorees, highlights of Girl Scouts activities and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i to support initiatives designed to help girls discover their potential and better serve their communities.
