Animal blessing Sunday in Kilauea

KILAUEA — In celebration of the life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi, Christ Memorial Espicopal Church in Kilauea is offering a special blessing of the animals service this Sunday, Oct. 4, at 8 a.m.

Christ Memorial Episcopal Church is on Kolo Road.

“In the Episcopal Church, we look to the saints for inspiration to be a more devoted and disciplined followers of Jesus,” explained the Rev. Gae Chalker, vicar of Christ Memorial.

“What inspires us about St. Francis and what makes him one of our most popular saints is his decision to let go of his very-comfortable lifestyle in order to serve. And he had an exceptional love of nature, preaching that it was the duty of all human beings to protect and enjoy nature as both the stewards of God’s creation and as creatures ourselves.”

All creatures are invited, but must be on leashes or in enclosures. Wear masks and practice social distancing.
