Back-to-back queens

When Isabel Gampon crowned Xarika Casticimo as the 2022 Miss Hawai‘i Filipina Saturday night at the Ala Moana Hotel in front of a sold-out crowd of 350, it marked the first time in history that Kaua‘i beauties have won back-toback titles in the competition.

Casticimo, a 2021 graduate of Kaua‘i High School and the daughter of Mercedes and Eddie Casticimo, took best in talent with the same hula presentation that won her best in talent in the 2022 Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Pageant earlier this year at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.

She also claimed social-medial favorite and spirit awards for selling 120 tickets for the state pageant.

Casticimo danced “Kaua‘i Lana I Ke Kai.” She is also a member of the Merrie Monarch champion Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala.

She is the fifth statewide winner from Kaua‘i, following Gampon (2019 — no pageants were held in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021), Topaz Fernndez in 2011, Ruth Coller in 1991 and Barbara Balderas in 1962.

Lennel Alavarez of Maui is the first runner-up, Laure Diana Roark from Hawai‘i Island is second runner-up, and Krizz Nicole Rodriguez of O‘ahu is the third runner-up.

With Casticimo’s ascension to Miss Hawai‘i Filipina, the Miss Kaua‘i Filipina First Princess, Kiele Casillas, becomes the 2022 Miss Kaua‘i Filipina.
