The Big Island reported five new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the island’s total case count to 2,211.
The new Big Island cases were among 70 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 33 new cases while Maui County reported 25 and Kauai zero. Eight residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
The Big Island on Friday had a 0.6% test positivity rate, below the statewide rate of 1.3%.
Statewide, to date, there have been 26,743 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Statewide, 49 people were hospitalized Friday, none of whom were receiving care on the Big Island. To date, 2,147 people have required hospitalization, including 114 on the Big Island.
One new coronavirus-related deaths was reported Friday on Oahu by the state. Of the 425 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 339 were on Oahu, 29 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
The Big Island’s COVID-19 fatality rate remained at 2.4% on Friday, above the statewide rate of 1.6%.
