Black Pot opening delayed

LIHUE — Black Pot Beach Park’s reopening has been postponed.

In May, the county announced the park at the end of Weke Road on Hanalei Bay would reopen June 4.

However, early Tuesday morning county spokespeople said the reopening has been delayed. County officials are now hoping to reopen the park at the end of June.

Workers still need to construct fencing and install materials for water meters for construction on the park to be complete.

Floods in 2018 brought Hanalei River through Black Pot Beach Park as it overflowed its banks and changed course. The restroom facilities in the park were destroyed, vehicles fell into the sand, and some homes along Weke Road were damaged and others destroyed.

Work has been ongoing and Weke Road remains closed to the public.
