Book-signing, playshop/workshop planned soon by local author

KAPA‘A — Debra Valentina, a former Kaua‘i resident, is presenting two events based on her new memoir, “Beyond Chaos: Journey to Freedom and Joy.”

The first is a book-signing Saturday, Jan. 2, and a playshop/workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 5, both hosted by and held at the Center for Spiritual Living Kaua‘i in Kapa‘a.

“I am delighted to be back on-island to share my memoir and the lessons I learned to change my life from chaos to joy,” Valentina said. “As this pandemic continues, it’s the perfect time to talk about hope, healing and resilience.”

Valentina’s book packs a punch in its short, 100 pages. As the author vulnerably shares her journey from a chaotic, dysfunctional childhood to a thriving, satisfying adult life, readers are taken on a roller-coaster ride, ultimately filled with hope that we, too, can turn out to be happy, contributing human beings.

With memories grouped in broad-themed categories such as “Chaos and Jealousy,” “Money, Sex and Men” and “Powerful Completions,” Valentina demonstrates that growing up with dysfunctional and abusive parents isn’t necessarily a recipe for a life of woe. In fact, she clearly demonstrates the resilience, determination and focus that have allowed her to create a joyful life for herself.

Valentina invites people to her book-signing from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. She will read excerpts from her memoir during the free event, and will be available to autograph her book.

“We are thrilled that our dear friend and former CSL Kaua‘i board member Debra Valentina has come back to share her memoir and facilitation talent with us,” said the Rev. Patrick Feren, co-spiritual director of Center for Spiritual Living Kaua‘i.

“It’s a great opportunity for folks to start off the New Year in an upbeat way.”

The Rev. Rita Andriello-Feren is the other co-spiritual director.

Valentina, who has been a holistic, intuitive mindset coach for female entrepreneurs and executives for decades, will also facilitate a workshop a few days later for those wishing to examine their own lives, using introspective questions included in her book.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., also at CSL Kaua‘i. The cost is $35. Pre-registration is required and can be accomplished cslkauai.org/csl-kauai-current-classes.

According to Valentia, there are no walk-ins for either event. Reservations are required. CSL Kaua‘i is on the first floor of the East Kaua‘i Professional Building, Suite 101, at 4-1579 Kuhio Highway, Kapa‘a. All attendees for both events must wear masks and observe social distancing.

Valentina’s book is published by Write Path Publishing, LLC, a local small business based in Kapa‘a. For more information about these events, call 431-1700.
