Bottle caps aren’t recyclable

LIHU‘E — Despite new markings on certain beverage containers to the contrary, the county Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division said bottle caps are not accepted at HI5 redemption centers or in the Kaua‘i Recycles green drop bins.

The caps are not part of the HI5 beverage program segregated rate and cannot be adequately processed and baled by the county’s recycling contractor.

Printed phrases like “recycle bottle with cap on” should be ignored and the caps not recycled, according to a county press release.
