CAK installation of officers offers a peek at the Puakea Golf Course

LIHU‘E — The lure of an invitation to sneak preview the soon-to-reopen Puakea Golf Course with a sampling of chef Kristen Yanagawa’s Puakea Grille offerings was enough to have the Contractors Association of Kaua‘i perform an in-person installation of its 2022 officers and boards Thursday evening.

Retied Judge Gerald S. Matsunaga, an honorary CAK member, led the installation of the CAK governing body, while Judge Laurel Loo offered the invocation.

Demetrio Tolentino of Jas. W. Glover is the CAK president, taking over from past president Jacquelyn Contrades of Shioi Construction, who holds the position of immediate past president.

Nathan Konishi of Pacific Blue Construction is CAK vice president, and Jerry Nishek of Kaua‘i Nursery &Landscaping will handle the duties of the CAK secretary. Koa Duncan of the Grove Farm Company is the association’s treasurer.

Trinette Kaui of Alexander &Baldwin is part of the 2022 CAK board, along with Fred Pascual of Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, Joni Hamada-Patricio of HAMCO Glass &Glazing, T-Jay Shigemoto of Hawai‘i Gas, Lauren Starner of Kiki‘aola Land Company and Alicia Leong of Ka‘iwa Construction.

TJ Esaki Kua, the recently appointed head professional at Puakea Golf Course, was joined by Grove Farm president and CEO Warren Haruki in showing off the facility through a series of activities confined to the driving range and putting green.

“We are all family,” Esaki Kua said. “We are all Puakea, and there is no differentiation between the golf course or the restaurant unless I say ‘Puakea Golf Course’ or ‘Puakea restaurant.’”
