Children’s mental health day set

HONOLULU — Governor David Ige signed a proclamation declaring the importance of positive mental health for all of Hawaii’s keiki and commemorating May 9 as National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.

An awareness gathering will take place on Kauai that day, with sign-waving at the Historic County Building from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.

The state Department of Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division has joined with community partners statewide to emphasize the need for comprehensive, coordinated mental health services for children, youth, young adults and their families.

Functions will take place from May 4 to 10 across the state to build awareness and educate the public about the importance of protecting children’s mental health.

This year’s theme for National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day is “Suicide Prevention: Strategies That Work.”
